HRC’s Sarah McBride Announces New Book

Today, Crown Publishing announced the release of HRC National Press Secretary Sarah McBride’s first book, Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality and that former Vice President Joe Biden has authored the foreword for the forthcoming memoir.

In 2016, HRC National Press Secretary Sarah McBride made history as the first openly transgender person to address a major party convention when she spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Prior to Sarah’s barrier breaking address to the nation, she made national headlines when she came out publicly as transgender while serving as student body president at American University and worked with HRC and Equality Delaware to pass protections for transgender people in her home state of Delaware.

Her book, which will be released in March of 2018, chronicles Sarah’s journey as a transgender woman, her work as an advocate, and her heartbreaking romance with fellow transgender activist Andrew Cray, who passed away from cancer shortly after their wedding. Sarah weaves in the broader issues facing the transgender community, from anti-transgender legislation and bathroom access, to health care and the need for comprehensive non-discrimination protections.

“When I came out as transgender five years ago, I never would have imagined the experiences ahead, including the honor of working with the talented team at Crown on a book chronicling my journey of self-acceptance, transformative love, and life-affirming advocacy,” said HRC National Press Secretary Sarah McBride. “While every trans person’s path is different, each of us has hopes, dreams, and a story to tell. I hope my story can help humanize the issues at the center of our national debate and, in doing so, make a little more room for others to be able to live openly and authentically.”

In his moving foreword, Vice President Biden writes, “We are at an inflection point in the fight for transgender equality, what I have called the civil rights issue of our time. And it’s not just a singular issue of identity, it’s about freeing the soul of America from the constraints of bigotry, hate, and fear, and opening people’s hearts and minds to what binds us all together. And that’s what makes Sarah’s book so powerful.”
