Kerry Names Advisors to His Campaign for LGBT Outreach Jeff Trammell and Mary Breslauer Appointed Senior Advisors Mark Seifert, Former Wesley Clark LGBT Aide, Also Tapped |
A former chair of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, Trammell is currently a member of the board of the Human Rights Campaign. He was also one of the founders of the Gay and Lesbian Remembrance Project of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Trammell added "Never have the stakes been higher for gay and lesbian Americans. The Bush Administration is in the process of driving gay and lesbian Republicans out of their party. John Kerry has a thirty year history of fighting for the rights of our community. We must do everything in our power to elect him president." With a background in journalism, politics and government, Breslauer runs her own communications firm in Boston. A director of HRC for the past 10 years, Breslauer co-chairs the Public Policy Committee. A commentator on issues facing the LGBT community, Breslauer's opinion pieces have been published in The Advocate, The Boston Globe and the Washington Blade. She was the founding producer and co-host of "One in Ten," one of the first commercial radio shows in the country dedicated to LGBT issues when it was launched in 1992. A Democratic and gay activist, Breslauer has been a long-time supporter of John Kerry's. She worked for former U.S. Rep. Gerry Studds, and has been involved in scores of Democratic campaigns through the years. Most recently, Breslauer has worked with the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) and with MassEquality, a coalition of national and local groups. "John Kerry has been both a friend and supporter of our community since he arrived in the United States Senate. In fact, we have never had a Democratic nominee who has been as active and solid on issues that matter to LGBT Americans and their families," said Breslauer. "This will be the most important presidential election in our life time, and I look forward to working with the community to make sure that John Kerry is elected in November." Mark Seifert joins the campaign after serving as the Director of LGBT Outreach for Wesley Clark's campaign. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Seifert has practiced law in Washington D.C. since 1993. He clerked on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law. After that, Seifert worked as a litigator for 5 years before joining the Federal Communications Commission. At the FCC, Seifert oversaw the E-rate program, which annually distributes $2.25 billion for telecommunications for elementary and secondary schools across the United States. He left that position to work for Clark. |
