SF Transgender Activists
to Counter Rev. Fred Phelps

The Rev. Fred Phelps, here on his home turf of Topeka, Kansas, travels to San Francisco on Feb. 24, where a group of transgender activists will be waiting for him Compiled by GayToday

San Francisco--Advocates for Transgender and Gender Variant prisoners will be on hand Sunday, February 24th at the San Francisco Metropolitan Community Church, 150 Eureka Street, at 9:00 AM to oppose the single-minded Baptist parson, Rev. Fred Phelps with his Westboro Baptist Church "God Hates Fags" crusade.

Phelps' notorious, anti-gay group has announced through a press release that it will be protesting at the MCC after having heard that the father of accused the 'American Taliban' member, John Walker Lindh, has become a member of the predominantly gay congregation.

The Trans/Gender Variant in Prison Committee is a newly formed committee of California Prison Focus, a San Francisco-based human rights group.

The only one of it's kind in the United States, the TIP committee currently advocates for transgender and gender variant California prisoners through legal interviews, community outreach, and by documenting and publicizing abuses that relate to the transgender and gender variant prisoner population.
