Texas preacher says gay marriage bans Christians from serving in federal office

Texas pastor Rick Scarborough went on a rant claiming that gay marriage is preventing Christians from holding federal positions in the U.S. government.

The rightwing political advocate who is the founder of conservative Christian group, Vision America, was speaking at the American Pastors Network ‘Vote Your Values’ event in Pennsylvania, according to RightWingWatch.org.

Scarborough told the group of pastors: ‘There are laws on the books now that disqualify your members, especially your leaders, from serving in federal office because they hold the biblical interpretation of marriage.’

Presumably, he was referring to anti-discrimination laws that serve to protect the rights of LGBTQ citizens, those rules that ban people from using religion to oppress, reject, or refuse service to LGBTQ people.

The anti-gay preacher then rebuked marriage equality, saying that it would bring the judgment of God unto America.

‘When five unelected lawyers handed down the marriage ruling and said that, despite natural law and despite all of God’s revelation and thousands of years of history, we declare that a man can marry a man, they opened the floodgates for an immoral life such as we have never known in this country,’ he said. ‘And perhaps brought the judgment of God finally, completely upon our country.’
