Join HRC at the Women’s March on Washington this Saturday

Excited for the Women’s March on Washington? We are too! HRC is proud to be a sponsor of this historic gathering for justice. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions we’ve received, courtesy of the March organizers.

Q: When is the event?

A: The Women’s March on Washington will take place this Saturday, January 21, in Washington, D.C. A pre-March rally is set to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude around 1:15 p.m. The March is scheduled to kickoff at 1:15 p.m.

Q: Where do I go for the event?

A: The starting point for both the rally and the March will be the intersection of Independence Avenue and Third Street SW, Washington D.C., near the U.S. Capitol.

Q: Do I need a ticket to attend this event? Are all welcome?

A: No, you do not need a ticket. Everyone, regardless of gender or gender identity, who believes women’s rights are human rights, is welcome to attend.

Q: What can I expect on Saturday?

A: The program for Saturday is as follows:

  • 8 a.m.— activities start with images and video on display.
  • 9 a.m. — pre-rally with speakers, music and public service announcements.
  • 10 a.m. — the official rally starts, featuring celebrities including Katy Perry, Cher, America Ferrera and Uzo Aduba
  • 1 p.m. — participants start marching toward The Ellipse where the program will end.

Q: What is the March route?

A: The group will begin to walk from the gathering location around 1 p.m.  and march west on Independence Avenue SW, from 3rd Street SW, to 14th Street SW; then will turn north on 14th Street SW to Constitution Avenue NW; and will march west on Constitution Avenue NW to 17th Street NW, near the Ellipse and Washington Monument, where the event will come to an end.

Q: What should I bring to the March?

A: New York magazine has put together a helpful guide on this topic. It covers everything from what to wear and what sort of bag to take, to what safety precautions to take. Be sure to check it out and share it with friends, family, and loved ones planning to join you!

Q: Will HRC be marching in the Parade?

Yes! HRC staff and volunteers will be attending the rally and the March. Look for the giant HRC blue and yellow flag to march with us!

Q: What if I want to show my support but am unable to travel to Washington, D.C.?
