OITNB star Samira Wiley marries show’s writer Lauren Morelli

Orange is the New Black star Samira Wiley married long term partner and show’s writer Lauren Morelli on Saturday (25 March).

The couple tied the knot in Palm Springs, Southern California, in the same place they got engaged last year.

According to Martha Stewart Weddings, the pair had a ‘colorful confetti-themed celebration,’ wanting the day to feel fun and non-traditional.

The outdoor ceremony commenced with a procession down the aisle to Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It.

Entering the reception to Justin Bieber’s Baby, the couple both wore Christian Siriano custom-made looks.

The reception featured vibrant floral and citrus centrepieces and colorful mismatched glassware, with a blast of confetti during the first dance.

Lauren Morelli: ‘Wifey for lifey’

The couple’s engagement story is possibly the cutest thing you’ll read all day.

Morelli proposed  in Palm Springs, after being together for three years.

Wiley said: ‘She asked me to sit next to her.’

‘Then she got me up, and we started dancing together, and she pulled a ring from behind the couch.

‘I didn’t know she was as ready as she was.

‘I was crying uncontrollably and kept backing away from her,’ Wiley said.

In an interview with Out, Wiley reveals the details of how she met her fiancee on the set of the hit television show.

As a writer for Orange is the New Black, Morelli was tasked with making up a rap for Wiley’s character on the show, Poussey Washington: ‘I’d already seen Samira’s audition tape and immediately had a crush on her,’ Morelli reveals.

Wiley added: ‘Lauren is an amazing rapper, but I kept coming up with questions to find a way to talk to her — bullshit like “I don’t know if I’d rhyme this word with this word.”

‘Then we were sitting in the prison cafeteria for a scene, eating some stale noodles, and like a kindergartner, I came and put a noodle on her ear — anything to see her smile,’ Wiley said.
