Transgender students avoid using bathrooms at school despite negative health consequences, a new report has found.

The report revealed transgender students often feel unsafe and uncomfortable going to the toilet at school.

Over 28,000 transgender people took part in the report entitled, Separation and Stigma: Transgender Youth and School Facilities.

The report stated 70% of transgender students avoid using the restroom at school, with 32% reporting avoiding eating or drinking as a result of the fear.

It also reported 8% developing a urinary tract infection or kidney-related medical issue in the last year resulting from avoiding the restroom.

The shocking data also reveals that transgender students who are subjected to discrimination in schools also experience increased levels of depression.
