Ageless gay icon Cher absolutely steals show at Billboard Music Awards

Cher brought down the house at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (21 May) with revealing outfits and memorable wigs and a voice that is still as good as it ever was.

The recipient of the Billboard Icon Award wore a glittering fringe bodysuit to perform her 1999 hit Believe then put on a giant wig and thigh-high boots for the 1989 classic If I Could Turn Back Time.

Twitter lost its mind with #CherIcon trending throughout the night.

As she stepped up to accept her award, the 71-year-old legend told the las Vegas crowd that included her transgender son Chaz Bono: ‘I’ve been doing it for 53 years. This is not an applause thing. I’m 71 yesterday. Yes. And I can do a five-minute plank, OK?. Just saying.’

She went on to say that she was told early on that she never going to be the most beautiful or the most talented, but that she had something special.

‘Luck has so much to do with my success with a little bit of something thrown in,’ she said.

Some might think it takes more than luck to have a number one hit on a Billboard chart in each of the last six decades and to become an Oscar-winning actress.

It must be all that ‘little bit of something thrown in.’
