RuPaul wins Outstanding Host for Drag Race in Creative Arts Emmy awards

RuPaul won the award for ‘Outstanding Host of a Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program’ for Drag Race today (10 September).

He faced off against Snoop Dogg for Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, Gordon Ramsay for Masterchef Junior, Alec Baldwin for Match Game, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn for Project Runway, and also W Kamau Bell for United Shades of America with W Kamau Bell.

The Drag Race royalty took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support. RuPaul said: ‘Thank you Television Academy so much – you make this queen so proud.

‘I want to thank all of the cast and crew of RuPaul’s Drag Race and my family at World of Wonder. And the gorgeous people at VH1,’ he said.

The Creative Arts Emmy awards honor the nonperforming categories of TV production, such as editing, costuming and direction.

Traditionally they take place the week before the Primetime Emmys known to millions of TV viewers.

The show is nominated for a total of seven Emmys—taking home awards for Outstanding Costumes and Picture Editing.

This is RuPaul’s second consecutive win as Outstanding Host.

The show is also up for Best Reality Competition Series at the Primetime Emmys next week (17 September).

Both awards shows will air next weekend.
