WATCH: Person walks into LGBTI center and launches pepper spray attack

Police in Washington DC, US, are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a person who walked into a local LGBTI center last week and launched a pepper spray attack on a service user.

The incident took place at the Casa Ruby center on Georgia Avenue, Northwest DC, at approximately 1.45pm on 12 December. It was caught on the center’s security cameras.

Police have posted the video on YouTube and Twitter to seek public help in identifying the assailant. They are treating the incident as a crime motivated by hate or bias.

‘Anyone who can identify this individual or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE to 50411.’

The person who was attacked was taken to hospital for treatment but later released.

This is not the first time the center has been the scene of a crime. Earlier this year, it was vandalized and a staff member attacked.

Speaking of this latest attack, Center founder Ruby Corado told Washington Blade: ‘When you come in an establishment and attack people they just feel like they’re so powerful they can beat somebody up and get away with it. That’s the kind of mentality and it’s so wrong.’
