Britney Spears to headline UK Pride festival

One of the UK’s biggest Pride festivals has announced that it has secured Britney Spears to headline this year’s festival.

Brighton and Hove Pride will take place on Saturday 4 August in the south coast city of Brighton.

Britney Spears will appear as the first date on her European tour of her Las Vegas show, Piece of Me.

In a statement via Brighton Pride organizers, Spears said, ‘I’m so excited to be kicking off my UK tour this summer at Brighton Pride! I guarantee it’s going to be a night to remember and can’t wait to sing and dance with all of my LGBTQ fans.’

This will be Spears’ only UK Pride appearance in 2018. It will be followed by arena dates in Scarborough (17 Aug), Manchester (18 Aug), Dublin, Ireland (20 Aug), Glasgow (22 Aug) and London (24 Aug).

Tickets sales site crashes

The announcement has been met with surprise and delight by Britney Spears fans in the UK. The Brighton and Hove Pride ticket sales website temporarily crashed due to a surge in traffic. Advance standard tickets cost £21, but rise in price nearer the date of the festival.

‘Obviously with an artist of Britney’s popularity, and 56 million twitter followers, there was always going to be a high demand for tickets,’ a spokesperson told GSN.

‘Our tech team are currently monitoring the servers and doing everything they can to keep them online but the sheer volume of database requests is overwhelming at times. Our advice would be just to be patient and keep trying.’

Niles Rogers (Chic) has been announced as another of the main stage performers at the festival.
