Star Cheerleader

rupaul6.jpg - 9.97 K Last year, the Hotsheet reported that Slums of Beverly Hills star Natasha Lyonne would be starring in a black comedy about a naïve 17-year-old who is sent to a "rehab camp" by her parents who suspect she's a lesbian. Recent additions to the But I'm a Cheerleader cast include RuPaul, Mink Stole, Richard Moll, Cathy Moriarity, Michelle Williams and Eddie Cibrian. Cibrian may be familiar to many from his days on the daytime drama The Young and the Restless, Baywatch Nights, his current stint on Sunset Beach, or his barely clothed appearance as a masseur in last years Living Out Loud.
Stars Get Behind Marriage

The number of high-profile celebrities--both gay and straight--who are getting behind Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund's sponsored Marriage Resolution is growing. The resolution calls on states not to "interfere with same-gender couples who choose to marry or share fully and equally in the rights, responsibilities and commitment of civil marriage."

dduchovny.jpg - 5.36 K David Duchovny supports gay marriage The current list of endorsers include Gillian Anderson, Ellen DeGeneres & Anne Heche, David Duchovny, Harvey Fierstein, Whoopi Goldberg, Melanie Griffith & Antonio Banderas, Helen Hunt, Judith Light , Kathy Najimy, Gwyneth Paltrow, Meg Ryan, Cristina Saralegui, Bob Smith, Marlo Thomas & Phil Donahue, Lily Tomlin, Martina Navratilova, Beck, Melissa Etheridge & Julie Cypher, Madonna, Todd Oldam, Herb Ritts, RuPaul and Ingrid Casares. The entire list can be viewed at: the Lambda Legal Web site

Ellen DeGeneres On Elizabeth Hurley

March's Harper's Bazaar features naked --except -for-her-sandals--Elizabeth Hurley on the cover with the headline "Ellen DeGeneres On Elizabeth Hurley." Inside, the two EdTV stars sit down and chat about cars, Hugh Grant and beauty tips. DeGeneres writes that she was thrilled when Harper's asked her to interview Hurley because she wanted "to ask her how she enjoyed working in the movie Showgirls--then I realized I was thinking of Elizabeth Berkley." Oops! Easy mistake.

Sonny & Cher's Lesbian Love

As the Hotsheet reported in December, the Sonny Bono and Cher biopic And the Beat Goes On: The Sonny and Cher Story includes a scene in a lesbian bar in the 1962. The television movie is based on the Congressman Sonny Bono's memoirs, and depicting the first time Bono spotted a 16-year-old Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre (a.k.a. Cher) at a Los Angeles lesbian bar. GLAAD consulted on the movie, bringing in lesbian historians to help set an accurate scene. And the Beat Goes On premiers Monday night on ABC.
Take Note:

There's talk that the camp classic Showgirls may be among the top ten worst films of all time, when the Golden Raspberry Foundation announces their 100 Worst Films of the Century early next year. The list of films is modeled after the American Film Institute's recent list of the best films of the century.

The Foundation, who bring you the Razzie Awards each year, will soon ask movie fans to vote online (www.razzies.com) for their picks. The 19th annual Razzies will be held March 20, 1999. GLAAD Vanguard recipient Whoopi Goldberg won best supporting actress honors at the 30th Annual NAACP Image Awards.

The ceremony, held in Pasadena, California Sunday night, honored Whoopi for her role in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. The team that created such television favorites as Frasier and Wings are going their separate ways. David Angell, Peter Casey and openly gay producer David Lee, are reportedly separating amicably, and will stay on as executive producers of Frasier. Former editor-in-chief of OUT Magazine, Sarah Pettit, has been named the new "Arts & Entertainment" editor for Newsweek.

adick.jpg - 6.80 K NewsRadio's big Dick Funnyman and NewsRadio star Andy Dick may be in some hot water. Florida police are investigating whether Dick exposed himself or a body stocking when he appeared at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville on a double-bill with Suddenly Susan comic Kathy Griffin. Published reports also claim he used inappropriate and obscene language. No official response from Dick yet.

Will & Grace creators and executive producers Max Mutchnick (the gay one) and David Kohan have just inked a deal reportedly worth $16 million dollars to develop programming for Warner Bros. TV. The creative duo will remain at Will & Grace at least through next season. Richard Chamberlain portrays Doris Duke's gay confidant/butler (and possible killer) in CBS's Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke. The mini-series airs Sunday and Tuesday night.
