  • There is a growing passion in the women's community to participate in a wider variety of vacations. In addition to just wanting to have fun in the company of other women, more and more women are wanting to explore the world, have an adventure, do and learn something new.

However, whereas the original adventuring-woman expected to sleep on the ground, be rained upon, and not take a shower for several days, there is a new breed of woman-traveler who is not comfortable in that venue. Because of the world-wide communication systems and the internet, women have become more aware of the extraordinary opportunities they have to explore unique places in the world. And, yet, this new woman-traveler will have more fun if her trip can have some comfort.

In 1982, Donna Hunter turned a passionate hobby into a business when she created Mariah Wilderness Expeditions, a permitted whitewater rafting company that has offered rafting to the general public, corporations, families, and friends.

Mariah became the only women-owned and operated rafting company in California, and, since 1982, has taken over 150,000 happy guests rafting on various rivers in California. Since 1982, Mariah has also offered a program of rafting and sea kayaking trips just for women. Donna's main interest was, and continues to be, to provide a safe and supportive environment for women to grow and have fun in the natural environment.

Last year Donna entered into a partnership with another raft company to create Mariah Adventure Connection, a (general public) raft company, becoming one of the largest raft companies in California. Her purpose was to free herself up to develop the Mariah Women's program to meet the emerging desires of the woman-traveler.

Mariah Women will continue to offer the more physically demanding adventure vacations which Mariah is well-known for: rafting on a wide range of rivers from the easy South Fork American in California, to the awesome Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, and the technically challenging Futaleufu River in Chile, sea kayaking, hiking Machu Picchu and exploring the jungles of Costa Rica.

This year Mariah Women has added a variety of vacations in the line of Luxury Adventure Cruising, distinctive cultural and eco-explorations, and an all-inclusive Pacific Island resort.

Each trip has been thoroughly researched in the Mariah tradition with particular attention to every detail of accommodations, meals, experienced local tour guides and activities. Each trip has a Mariah Representative along to take care of all the details and to enhance your experience. Here are a few of the trips coming up:
