Wasteland —Mid-Season |
"Due to the competitive landscape of the upcoming November Sweep, and an incredibly challenging time period, we have decided to take Wasteland off the schedule," ABC said. "But since we feel the show never truly got sampled, and we believe in the talents of creator Kevin Williamson and our cast, we plan on relaunching this series again in December." TAKE NOTE:
Hopefully the WB will give this excellent series the kind of well-crafted promotion that has made Dawson's Creek, Felicity and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer household names. Over on FOX, the acclaimed comedy Action, which was abruptly pulled from the network's schedule for two weeks, returned this week (and next) for back-to-back episodes on Thursday night. At Last! Will & Grace Returns!: After a three-week hiatus during the baseball championships, Will & Grace returns Tuesday, Nov. 2 with all-new episodes and a new recurring character. Veteran actor/dancer Gregory Hines will join the W&G cast Nov. 30, playing a successful lawyer who, according to the Hollywood Reporter, develops a relationship with Will AND Grace. Gay Samurai Film Wraps: Acclaimed Japanese film director Nagisa Oshima has come out of a 13-year retirement to helm the 19th century epic Gohatto. Set in 1865, Gohatto (which means "forbidden" in Japanese) tells the story of a band of openly gay samurai. "Oshima bluntly portrays this samurai band as overtly homosexual," writes the Hollywood Reporter, "physically and emotionally driven by deeply felt attachments to one another." The film, which which finished shooting in July, may open in Japan as early as December. No U.S. release date has been set.
In addition to widespread print and electronic media coverage, several Web sites related to Brandon Teena and transgender issues are supporting the film. The film's official site, www.boysdontcry.com , includes links to gender and anti-hate web sites such as the "Remember Our Dead" site, the International Foundation for Gender Education site, and the New York City Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project site. The site also provides an area for people to contribute their own works of creative expression against hate crimes. The film site also links to brandon.guggenheim.org , a "Guggenheim Virtual Museum commission that entails multi-artist, multi-author, and multi-institutional collaboration." The Brandon site, intended for mature audiences, "explores issues of gender fusion and techno-body in both public space and cyberspace." Both are worth checking out!
Unconditional Love Reunites Everett and Hogan: My Best Friend's Wedding director P.J Hogan is slated to re-team with Rupert Everett in the murder mystery Unconditional Love. The film, which traces the hunt for the murderer of Everett's live-in lover, will also star Kathy Bates and Jonathan Pryce. According to Daily Variety, Pryce (of Miss Saigon and Evita fame) will also sing 10 to 15 songs in the picture.
