& Barbara Bush on Holiday Lone Picketer Returns a Year Later to Boca Grande, Florida Sign Says: 'Osama Bush Laden Terrorizing/Betraying Gays' |

Standing in front of the Gasparilla Inn, a favorite Bush family vacation hideaway, Kunst waved his sign at former President George Herbert Walker Bush and his wife, Barbara as they passed him on their way to lunch at the Beach Club, owned by the posh hotel. The Bushes waved back while attempting to read his sign, which read:
"It was worth the trip," Kunst gushed happily. It was the second year during which Kunst had appeared in Boca Grande protesting the Bushes. Last winter the lone picketer had stood out prominently when then president-elect George W. had arrived in the company of the Secret Service. Dressed in a striped pink/white shirt, Kunst had brandished what the Sun Herald called a "shocking pink campaign-like button," reading Fraud W. Bush. He'd also worn a crown made of bright red foam rubber and calling attention to one of his posters which asked passers-by to "Protest Illegitimate King George at the White House Coronation" A second sign read: "Bush: Thou Shalt Not Steal," referring to GOP's manipulation of Florida's Election 2000 vote-count. This year Kunst proudly displayed some of the 13+ thousand No More Bushit stickers and buttons he'd sold at $2 each (contact BobKunst@mindspring.com or telephone: 305-864-5110) "Last year I had 200 negative comments and 27 positive ones," Kunst said. "This year, all but two have been positive." The Sun Herald's photo caption read: "Family leaders: Former President George Bush and his wife, Barbara, get ready to board a golf cart Friday and drive by Bob Kunst, a political activist standing on the corner in front of their hotel on Gasparilla Island." "Hey Barbara", Kunst yelled, as the golf cart passed with George Sr. driving. Kunst told GayToday:
" 'Why is the Great Uniter, really the Great Divider?' I challenged, 'with Miami-Dade Bush-backers collecting over 50,000 signatures to repeal 'sexual orientation' non-discrimination. Bush wants to conduct a new anti-gay witch hunt in the nation, to rally his base and divert attention from all his negatives and neglects." Kunst was delighted when local teens asked him for "No More Bushit" stickers to decorate their skateboards. |
