U.S. President Taps 'The Best Little Boy
in the World' for Top Post


Suggests Gay Male as Treasurer
for Democratic National Committee

Washington, D.C.—Democratic National Committee General Chair Governor Roy Romer praised President Clinton Saturday for recommending Andrew Tobias, author of The Best Little Boy in the World and The Best Little Boy in the World Grows Up to become the DNC's Treasurer. "I would be honored to work with someone of Andy's caliber in the near future," said DNC General Chair Governor Roy Romer. "Andy is a well-rounded and thoughtful leader known for his innovative and progressive ideas and vast accomplishments. His expertise, background, and commitment to the Democratic Party will prove to be invaluable assets for the DNC."

"I am thrilled to have a leader like Andy in this post," said Jean O'Leary, DNC Gay and Lesbian Caucus Chair. "This appointment is another example the DNC's commitment to quality and equality. This is great news for gay men and lesbians and builds on our strong relationship with the Party."

Among his many accomplishments, Tobias has been a writer for New York Magazine, Esquire, and Time. His coming-of-age story The Best Little Boy in the World has received accolades in and beyond the gay and lesbian community as a genuinely insightful and witty coming-out adventure.

He is perhaps best known for his adept knowledge and voluminous writing on personal finance. His book The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need, was a national best-seller, with over 1 million copies sold. He has received a number of awards for his work and his daily investment comments can be found at www.andrewtobias.com.

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLESN) honored Tobias with their 1st Annual Valedictorian Award. The award recognized his work as Executive Producer of the 1998 PBS documentary Out of the Past. The film featured the stories of several historic gay and lesbian figures including Bayard Rustin and Barbara Gittings. Out of the Past was screened at the White House.

Tobias attended Harvard Business School and Harvard College where he majored in Slavic Languages and Literature. He has remained active in Democratic politics and serves on the Board of Directors of the Human Rights Campaign. Tobias and his partner Charles Nolan split their time between Miami and New York.
