Badpuppy Welcomes Gay Today

by, Warren Arronchic

Two years ago the gay future of cyberspace--now known as Badpuppy—met up with the rich past of the gay liberation movement right on Florida’s Space Coast, near Cape Canaveral. The occasion was volatile, the picketing of a gay bar by members of the Ku Klux Klan. A spontaneous counter-picket was quickly organized, managing to rally a hundred locals—both gay and straight—putting the Klan to shame. This was observed not only by mainstream media, but also by an acclaimed journalist and activist of the gay liberation movement. This veteran activist, Jack Nichols, was covering the event for both gay and mainstream papers. As founding editor of Manhattan’s Gay (In 1969 America’s first gay weekly newspaper) and the initiator of the nation’s first organized gay picketing against discrimination at the White House in 1965, Nichols’ experienced eye was appreciative of the counter-picket, and a vivid account of the anti-Klan demonstration went into print.

With the recent publication of Nichol’s fifth book The Gay Agenda: Talking Back to the Fundamentalists (Prometheus Books), William Pinyon, remembered Nichols talents and called the pioneering editor to put those talents to use as Badpuppy’s Executive Editor.

Over the past year, Badpuppy has experienced phenomenal growth, expanding rapidly in response to subscribers seeking quality male erotica. Badpuppy has evolved knowing that gay men have many interests. The website will bring its many thousands of on-line subscribers a full range of information on a variety of issues affecting gay life.

With Badpuppy’s hiring of Jack Nichols, the popular website now enters a new and exciting phase. Nichols, whose editorial abilities have been compared in American Journalism to those of Thomas Paine’s two centuries ago, will be responsible for editorials, personality portraits, interviews, book reviews, entertainment reports, the latest in health news, daily world events, breakthroughs in the computer and technical fields, and daily world-wide gay news. Badpuppy’s February Interview will be with George Weinberg, Ph.D. , author of 13 books and the psychotherapist who coined the word, "homophobia."

William Pinyon, Managing Editor, will work with Nichols developing concept, format, and creative direction for Badpuppy’s news and editorial divisions.

Thomas Jefferson might have allied himself with Badpuppy’s revolution when he swore " eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." "There is no tyranny," says Badpuppy's first editorial, "more morbid than that which dictates to love and affection."
