Streisand Calls George W. Bush's Installation
'Supreme Coup'

'Historic Moment Requires Strong Offense Against Republicans'

SuperStar Says Bush Stole Election with Voter Fraud, Family Ties

By Jack Nichols

Los Angeles, California—Barbra Steisand, with her admirable and characteristic direct showing of how she truly feels, has published a call to action against the Republicans, unashamedly repudiating the "stolen" presidency of George W. Bush. Her late March memo, originally a private communication to leading Democrats, has now been published on her site and in other venues and is titled: Nice Guys Finish Last.
Barbra Steisand wrote a letter to Congressional Democrats urging them to act against the Republican revolution

"This is a key moment in our history," she tells her readers, "we cannot let the right wing roll back thirty years of social progress. We must mount a strong, strategic and targeted offense against the Republican revolution that is now sweeping all branches of government."

Ms. Streisand notes that George W. Bush, who "stole the presidency through family ties, arrogance and intimidation, employing Republican operatives to exercise the tactics of voter fraud…" was "selected rather than elected" and that five members of the Supreme Court "installed the President they wanted in the White House, ignoring the will of the people."

Barbra Streisand has called this decision by the U.S. Supreme Court the "Supreme Coup." She now warns Democratic politicians that it is time to stand up to Bush. While she admits that many Democrats fear such outspokenness and may be afraid to seem to be rocking the boat, she reminds them that 'Rocking the boat is what wins elections!"

The fiery memorandum blames corporate America for benefiting from harmful Bush policies, including "banking and financial corporations like MBNA, chemical companies, energy companies and the oil industry."

Americans, even if they don't realize it, she continues, are living in a nightmare reality. "It is unbelievable to me how quickly Bush and the Republicans have moved in the past several months."

Ms. Streisand's near-incendiary statements appear to be near-echoes of those made by veteran activist Bob Kunst who spoke out against the Bush coup immediately preceding the Oscars where, directly in front of the Shrine he and his Oral Majority demonstrators reached out specifically to Hollywood, making direct appeals to its foremost stars to speak out against Bush the Tyrant.

Kunst's appeals were carried by the Associated Press and LA Weekly and on the March 23 Al Rantel Show (KABC).

"I reached out to her and to other stars too on the Los Angeles radio and in 35 media," Kunst told GayToday. Yet no other star but she has yet spoken such bold words—she's right on target."

"Congratulations on your statement," said Kunst in a letter addressed to Ms. Streisand and inviting her to visit Florida. He said:

"The best way to expose George W, is through his brother Jeb his in this 'ground zero' state where the rigged election and grand theft took place.

"We want you to come to Florida, as often as possible, to help us to raise the monies we will need to defeat Jeb Bush in the Democratic Primary in 2002, but starting immediately. We are determined to win back Congress in 2002 and the White House in 2004 and with this platform:

  • "I wouldn't steal your vote"
  • "I wouldn't put arsenic in your drinking water"
  • "I wouldn't drill for oil in your Paradise"
  • "I wouldn't rape America or this planet"
  • "But I would impeach the Supreme Court., and defend our Constitutional and sacred right to vote for life, liberty and happiness, and opportunity"

"It takes a majority in the House to start 'impeachment', which can begin in 2002 and two thirds of the Senate to finish the job in 2004 ,when we have a majority there, as well as the White House.

"The public is with us and is scared to death about Bush. Citizens see no leadership from the Democratic Party which is, as you understand, a tragedy both to the nation and to the party itself.

"So, will you 'come on down' and help us help save America and the world with a strategic offensive that will work?

"We are talking about huge, first-class, highly visible events to raise what will be needed. And we will not need nearly as much as will the Republicans to tell a truth that the people of Florida and the nation already know and which is now obvious in an economy worsening daily because of the fears that surround this terrible crisis.

"Also we'll gladly come out to Hollywood to help you mobilize both Hollywood and Broadway. We've already been in touch with thousands of folks all over Europe and the U.S. who want to organize.

    'I eagerly await your response.

"Together we can make this difference.

    "Yours Faithfully,
    Bob Kunst
    President, Oral Majority
