Hundreds of Mourners Fill Shove Chapel Celebrating Her Life Was Stabbed on Steps of Armstrong Hall at Colorado College |
Compiled By GayToday Colorado Springs, Colorado-Jocelyn Sandburg, known here as a "vibrant," "feisty," "energetic," and "tenacious" lesbian and human rights activist, was stabbed to death on the morning of April 26, her body found slumped on the stairs of Armstrong Hall at Colorado College. She was said to have appeared much younger than her 41 years. Her long dark hair fell beneath a baseball cap worn in reverse, in a manner of dress that included a tee-shirt, flip flops and jeans. "She pitched in wherever she was needed," an admirer told reporters. Police have not yet identified her killer.
Ms. Sandburg's parents, Evelyn and Harley Sandberg of Salt Lake City, the Post reported, "looked on in astonishment as they listened to the stories and testimonies of the lives their daughter had touched." Other speakers included volunteers and staff members from KRCC, the National Public Radio affiliate in Colorado Springs, where Sandberg had been hired as office manager, later tutoring dozens of volunteers. Mario Valdez, the station's manager, introduced Ms. Sandberg's parents to their daughter's spirited awareness which remains alive, he indicated, in the present: "Jocelyn may not have had children of her own," he said, "but look around you, and you'll see people she helped, in her own way, like a mother." |
