Los Angeles, California-- Sunday, on the eve of the Democratic Convention here, gay and lesbian Republicans and California's GOP leaders bringing their messages to California, will spotlight what they optimistically call "the new Republican Party emerging under the leadership of Governor George W. Bush," and, what they also believe has been, "the most gay-inclusive Republican National Convention in history." Log Cabin Republicans have endorsed Gov. Bush for President. |

The GOP Event, "Gay & Lesbian Republicans--California 2000", is by invitation only but is open to the press. It is to be held at the home of Randy Fishburn & Jeff Quinn where Mary Matalin of CNN's Crossfire and an advisor to the Bush-Cheney campaign, will be honored by gay and lesbian supporters of Republican candidates in the November elections.
Prominent gay and lesbian Republican activists (including California's openly gay delegates and alternates to last week's Republican National Convention in Philadelphia) and conservative leaders in the California Republican Party will be present.
The featured GOP speakers, including Mary Matalin, will be Shawn Steel, Vice Chairman, California Republican Party and Congressman Steve Horn (R-CA) of Long Beach.
On the same Convention eve, House Democratic leader, Rep. Richard Gebhardt, will deliver a keynote address to nearly 40 gay and lesbian elected officials at a Victory Fund Benefit in the Grand Salon Ballroom of West Hollywood's Wyndham Bel Age Hotel. The Victory Fund works to elect qualified openly gay and lesbian candidates.
The event, "Recognizing Our Own," is expected to draw hundreds of supporters. The benefit will honor gay and lesbian elected officials as well as gay community leader and Victory Fund founding board member David Mixner.
