Triangle Foundation Angered by Ugly Tirades on Her E-mails

Detroit, Michigan— Jenny Perricone, the wife of Michigan's Republican state House Speaker, Chuck Perricone, has shown the true face of Republican "compassion" say her critics following their discovery of an e-mail she sent that was chock full of anti-gay zealotry and was received Monday by persons all supposed to have been on her list of agreeable Republican friends. cperricone.jpg - 5.54 K

Mrs. Perricone, indulging herself in her own idea of what constitutes political acumen, manufactured so-called "prerequisites" for being a Democrat, including believing "the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding," "gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural," and "homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites and bestiality should be constitutionally protected."

Sean Kosofsky, director of policy for the Triangle Foundation, called Mrs. Perricone's e-mail "offensive and irresponsible."

Kosofsky charged:

"The Republican Party has attempted to posture themselves as 'compassionate conservatives' who are tolerant of gays and lesbians, but the actions of Perricone show that the party is still living in the dark ages when it comes to acceptance and diversity."

GOP House Speaker Chuck Perricone, R-Kalamazoo Township, attempted to distance himself from his wife's views, calling them "tasteless, crude and without merit."

Perricone also blamed the receipt of the offensive e-mail on his wife's technical incompetence, insisting that she'd been ignorant of the fact that the e-mail in question had been attached to another message that she'd forwarded. The people on her list, reportedly, had not purposely been sent her anti-gay thoughts which, he insisted, were not hers.

The Republican politician told reporters: "Once my wife realized the nature of the e-mail she had received, she immediately apologized to all concerned. She feels badly about this."

"My wife did not create or ask for this trash. She regrets the fact it was forwarded with other information, especially since this e-mail tree has corresponded for several years," he stated.

Chuck Perricone then turned his political guns on the Triangle Foudation, Michigan's most successful and active gay rights organization:

"It is tragic that a group that pleads for tolerance and understanding would so viciously attack a loving family," he said. "This incident is regrettable; the use of this incident for political gain at the expense of my entire family is shameful."
