Two major murder tragedies have rocked the Northeastern United States within the past week. One murder, that of missing 10-year old Jeffrey Curley of Cambridge, Massachusetts, is reputed to be the work of two suspects who used an automobile, according to wire reports, in which was found literature from NAMBLA, the North American Boy Love Association. The suspects, Salvatore Sicani, 21, and Charles Jaynes, 22, are being held on $100,000 cash bail. Sicani, a mechanic from Cambridge and Janes, an auto detailer—allegedly lovers (as described in court)—are known to have had lengthy histories of legal scrapes and violence. Jaynes, alone, is being detained on 75 outstanding warrants. The alleged killers (one of whom, Sicani, is reputedly said to have confessed and blamed the other, Jaynes) are believed to have lured 10-year old Jeffrey from his Cambridge neighborhood in Jaynes' Cadillac, promising to replace his stolen bicycle. Within two hours the child had been murdered, smothered with a gasoline-soaked rag. The two men, according to reports, then headed north into New Hampshire, allegedly stopping to purchase a body-sized container, 50 lbs. of cement and duct tape. Receipts for these items were also found in Jaynes' car. The body of Jeffrey Curley has not been found. It was reported without confirmation that Jaynes performed a sexual act on his corpse before placing it in the weighted container and tossing the container into the Piscataqua River. Police are presently dragging the river with no success. A second tragedy unraveled further in Jackson Township, New Jersey where a 15-year-old boy, is being held in last week's sexual assault and murder of an 11- year-old boy whose body was dumped in neighborhood woods. According to a variety of sources, the suspect teenager had first been experiencing sexual trysts with a convicted pedophile whom he met in an On-line chat room. When his parents discovered the nature of the trysts they attempted to have him sent to a mental health facility. He replied to their attempts by smashing electronic equipment they installed to monitor his On-line contacts. A judge refused to commit the teenager to hospitalization, however, and he was returned to his home. Less than week later, on a Saturday, an 11 year-old child, Edward P. Werner, reportedly knocked on the teen's door, selling candy as a fundraiser for his elementary school PTA. He was sexually assaulted and strangled. |
