Now that this guy came out, when do a couple members of Backstreet Boys and N Sync come out?? The ol' Gaydar goes off with a couple guys there. Note: I don't know the names of the guys since I don't listen to their music but i bet some of you get the same feeling as I do with a couple of those guys. High School Hell ?? Are you a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered high school student, or recent graduate? If you are AND if you live in Pennsylvania, we need your help.
And it doesn't stop with words: In Massachusetts, two young men allegedly used a pocket knife to cut HOMO into the back of a 17-year-old student. Queer high school students have been ridiculed, harassed and attacked in California, Colorado, and Utah. And it happens in Pennsylvania! Please help us make our schools safe for everyone! Reggie White: Bigot or Opportunist?
As I read through GayToday's new article about recent comments made by Reggie White at the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, I began to wonder why he's been trying so hard lately to be the golden boy for religious fanatics. Although I've never paid a great deal of attention to him, it seems as if White has becoming increasingly virulent with each public appearance since he retired from the Packers last year.
So, the question is, why? Has White always felt like this about us, while keeping it out of the papers until now so as not to harm his career? Or is he just pandering to religious right in an attempt gain their adulation and 'maintain the fame' in his post-NFL days? I find it ironic that White would quote Biblical verses from a part of the Bible that also advocates slavery, to a group that once used it to legitimize the American slave trade. If Southern Baptists had had their way a hundred and some years ago, ol' Reggie would have spent his life on a plantation picking cotton for the Massa instead of playing ball. Here are a few of the more irrelevant passages from Leviticus that the RR ignore, for your amusement: A man having an abnormal discharge (zab) is ritually unclean. (Leviticus 15:2-15) Menstruous women are ritually unclean. (Leviticus 15: 19-24) Those unclean of a spreading skin disease must shave off all their hair. (Leviticus 14:9) (ALL their hair?) Do not sacrifice children to any false god. (Leviticus 18:21) (Can you still sacrifice them to the true god?) Do not practice astrology. (Leviticus 19:26) Do not tattoo yourself. (Leviticus 19:28) (I wonder if Reggie's gotten himself one of those...) Do not eat any reptiles. (Leviticus 11:44) Do not eat any swarming insects. (Leviticus 11:43) (There goes my dinner plans) Do not eat blood. (Leviticus 7:26-27) (There goes my Halloween plans) Do not rob by violence. (Leviticus 19:13) (Can I still rob if I ask nicely?) A man must not have sexual relations with an animal. (Leviticus 18:23) And the number one quotation that anti-gay bigots conveniently forget: Do not bear hatred for anyone. (Leviticus 19:17)
