America's Sexual Inquisition: As a German business lawyer who lives in London and has spent some years in the United States representing major U.S. and international companies I want to share my concerns with you about the above matter.
After having spent more than 30 Million Dollars in Whitewater etc. Mr. Starr decided to investigate the private sexual life of your president. As an agent provocateur he then succeeded in getting Mr. Clinton to evade proper answers with respect to issues which were neither the business of Mr. Starr nor of the world-wide public. You should be happy that you have a performing young president, who fortunately still has a sense of liberalism. When studying at Harvard in 1973 I and my fellow students - although all of us being rather conservative - were thinking about Woodstock, Women Liberalization and the freedom from dusty hierarchies. Swinging New York and San Francisco were the definite sign that America had left the subjugation of puritanism and was going to become open-minded. What Is Going on Now?
This is the normal attitude of any mature person When do you finally realize that the present procedure does not only impair the image and the power of your president but that it creates a horrible image of the American people. The "Ugly American" fortunately has disappeared some 10 to 20 years ago: Now you are creating a new image of the "moralizing" American speaking with two tongues. When are you finally going to be sexually liberalized? When will you cease being inhibited by the most natural things? When do you start fighting against those people, who are spreading all their sexual frustration over a country which deserves better? United States awake! The modern world requires intellectual freedom and not the reincarnation of the ancient inquisitions.
Very truly yours,
The Engine That Drives the Current Sex Panic? Many mailings/postings re: the Pittsburgh Sex Panic conference have reached my desk, and I have read them with interest. Though in agreement with the stated goals and appreciative of the content outlined, I am disappointed that nowhere does nobody say nothing about the obvious engine that drives the current (and all other?) sex panic: fear of "corrupting" children. Anita launched the current lunacy with her "Save Our Children" campaign. The daycare witch hunts of the 80s (Mcmartin, Edenton, Fells Acre, Country Walk, etc.) have been debunked, but have left a residue of draconian laws (and hundreds still in prison). Concocted scares about (largely non-existent) "kiddie porn" and kids' access to "ideas" on the internet have prompted horrific censorship laws and court precedents in the 90s lifetime registry laws, lifetime parole, lifetime civil confinement (i.e., not for any law-breaking, merely for having the wrong thoughts) are all Stalinistic measures that are getting their trial runs (so far, all court okayed) against the dreaded "pedophiles." A record number of gay men now languish in prison for record prison terms for consensual, affectionate sex (and their arbitrarily-underage paramours are preyed upon by "therapists" and their ilk, turning them into professional victims)-- while the gay "community" celebrates our advances into marriage and the military. Throughout, a-gays have joined the condemnation chorus, evidently eager to prove their respectability by condemning the "real" queers-- no surprise, quislings are nothing if not an enduring lifeform but why are sex panic activists silent? After numerous one-on-one talks, I find most people appear reasonable and acknowledge the danger and hysterical irrationality of laws that don't distinguish between consensual and non-consensual sex; many personally know someone locked away forever for the same gross indecencies that landed Oscar in Raeding Gaol a hundred years ago (though not for nearly so long as happens today....) but few are willing to speak out If those in Pittsburgh want to address the source, the root, the driving force of the current sex panic, THEY WILL HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE HORRID INJUSTICE INHERENT IN LAWS THAT PUNISH CONSENSUAL SEX WITH PRISON TERMS, LEGAL OSTRACISM, AND SANCTIONED VIGILANTISM crafting a productive message of truth about the current sex lunacy is a challenge; undoubtedly, some fear that any attempt to attack the undeniable head of today's beast will result in hysterical responses (similar to last year's willfully ignorant characterizations of San Diego) But without an acknowledgment that pedophiliaphobia does us all grave harm, Pittsburgh activists have more in common with their a-gay cohorts than they'd care to admit PLEASE, someone, give me the happy news that these key issues will be addressed and that sex panic is working on a strategy to bring rationality to this crucial discourse There are models for such organizing (Boston/Boise, which gave birth to strange twins: Nambla and Glaad!), and activists working to craft agendas that can garner popular support (see attachment, the product of boston area activists, key in modifying Massachusetts' recent attempts to expand sex registries) Not only can this battle be joined, but it must be won if we are to enjoy lasting sex liberation; THE CREATION OF A SEXUAL POLICE STATE AIMED AT ANYONE IS ANTITHETICAL TO GAY LIBERATION
Yours,
Where Will You Be November 3? Judiciary Chair Henry Hyde leads the GOPerverts, holding in hand a piece of Clinton's hide with which to start an impeachment inquisition, calling it "Duty! Duty! Duty!" I call it "Doody! Doody! Doody!" and Hyde has tracked it into the House. Instead of waiting two years for the Presidential election, we can have it now on November 3. If you want the impeachment process to continue and pseudo-moralist Republicans who'll continue to promote the viciousness we associate with sexual fascism and sexual witch hunts, vote Republican. If you don't want this insanity to continue, vote Democratic. And if you live in Florida, vote for Amendment #9, which is a Declaration of Rights upon which this nation can build.
Bob Kunst, President
