Macho Boy Finds Liberation

I was capable of doing some good and working to show people there's something better than being the toughest kid in the neighborhood.

Mark Wahlberg-"Rogue Star"-Interview by Leslie Bennett- Vanity Fair, August

What is Art?

Art, for Mr. (Dave) Hickey, is a vital alternative to 'stagnant' mainstream culture, an invitation to pleasure and a challenge to trust your responses. It is a refuge 'from shopping, from fashion, from education'-a list which neatly lines up entertainment philistines and high art intellectuals as a common enemy. He derides the conformism of the art scene, and chides the curators of big international art shows for their 'repression' of alternative styles.

Filmmakers Treat James Dean's Bisexuality

In the TNT version, we see Dean as a young actor in New York accepting an invitation to a party at the home of an apparently gay producer. He goes to the apartment at midnight, as instructed. Through the open door, handsome young men -- and no pretty young women -- can be seen. Dean enters, the door closes, and that's that. The filmmakers seem terrified of what might have gone on behind that door.

Condoms & Religion

Religion still has a meaningful place in society, providing people with a sense of community and faith. Those things will never be outdated…What is outdated, however, is a sour-mouthed notion of sexuality trundled out by religion to stop people having fun…As a sidebar, it serves the purpose of keeping women - as noted when Anglicans recently declined to allow women to become bishops - in their place…At worst, it takes lives. Recently, Catholic bishops from African countries condemned the use of condoms to fight AIDS as an "immoral and misguided weapon". I'd have thought the estimated 28 million children left orphans by AIDS in Africa by the year 2010 was far more immoral than a condom or sex before marriage.

Baptists: 'Harry Potter' Books Convert Kids to Witchcraft

  • Symbols and spells in the books are similar to those found in the Wiccan religion.

  • Broomsticks and pointed hats are phallic symbols within the Wicca religion.

  • The lightening bolt on Harry Potter's head is one-half of the Nazi swastika.

  • The Bible cites references to Potter's messages: "The Goddess was worshipped as a Potter, (Zechariah 11:13)

  • Those who practice witchcraft are compulsively into drug use, sexual activity and other destructive conduct.

  • The concept of right and wrong does not exist in the worlds of Harry Potter or the Wicca religion.

    Milwaukee's Domestic Partner Benefits

We won! Milwaukee's Common Council approved 10-7 a labor contract with its largest union today (August 2, 2001) that includes domestic partner benefits for both opposite and same sex couples. The yes vote recognizes the value of our relationships, the principle of equal pay for equal work, and the integrity of the collective bargaining process. It also saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in the costs of arbitrating a rejected contract. The victory is a culmination of almost five years of activism. THANK YOU to so many of you who have called, written, attended hearings, and kept this movement alive!

    Divorcing Mayor Bunks
    with Happy Gay Couple

I ask Mr. Koeppel: Is it unexpected that Rudolph Giuliani would be staying with an openly gay couple?

"I don't know if its any more unusual than him wearing a dress," he says.

Peeping Tom Police Create Blow Job Brigades

One of the first steps is to set up a covert surveillance in order to determine the extent of the problem and the specific behavior to be targeted. Typically, a covert surveillance will reveal such problems as an extraordinary number of men cruising in cars or on foot and seeking sex with other men. Often these men will be openly drinking or using narcotics in public, exposing themselves, vandalizing the toilet areas with graffiti, and cutting holes in toilet walls. Illicit sex acts, homeless persons using rest areas for a place to live, and criminals lying in wait to commit a crime of opportunity will soon be observed, along with their intended victims, the motoring public-tourists, travelers, and truck drivers who use the rest areas for their intended purposes. Once information is obtained from covert surveillance, it is best to solicit volunteer officers to perform an undercover enforcement operation.

    Supreme Court 'Defiled
    Their Place in History'

The Supreme Court halted a Florida recount ordered by the state's highest court on the ground that local counting practices would vary, violating the constitutional guarantee of equal protection. This argument, Mr. Dershowitz persuasively shows, was not justified by precedent.

    Roman Catholicism Causes Mass Genocide

More than 25 million people on the African continent are infected with HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. In South Africa, around 1500 people a day are being infected. It is estimated that by 2010 Africa will have 28 million AIDS orphans. Given the extent of this tragedy, the Southern African Catholic Bishops' condemnation of the use of condoms to prevent the spread of the disease could scarcely be more damaging. The reaffirmation of the ban on any form of artificial birth control was made in spite of public appeals by one prominent church leader, Bishop Kevin Dowling, to the church to approve condoms for "preventing the transmission of death, and therefore not as a contraceptive to prevent the transmission of life". The bishops' refusal can only cause despair among those people, Catholic and non-Catholic, who have been working valiantly to try to contain the epidemic.
