I hope I can help the country have a deeper and better-informed knowledge about gay and lesbian issues as well as gays and lesbians themselves. I hope Americans can understand that gays and lesbians are their friends, their neighbors, and employees, in order to get beyond the fear and prejudice I see too often.
We need to see the individual for who he or she is—the uniqueness we have before the eyes of God. We need to understand the contribution gay people have made to this country. I hope people can develop a respect for each other without regard to sexual orientation.
