Queer as Folk is a frightening indication of how far the 'gay
rights' movement has come. Not only do we have a glut of TV
programs promoting acceptance of homosexuality, we now have a
'mainstream' TV program depicting how 'gay people' have sex.
The band, Matheson said, started as a one-time gig and was designed as a
joke. “Nobody in the band is gay, but we also don't really care what anybody
thinks, either…” One of the members' girlfriends Matheson said came up
with the members' stage names and designed a Web site, and the idea took off
from there…"The whole gay metal thing is a gimmick, but we talk it up,'' Matheson
said. "The singer is always talking about swinging both ways. The crowd
starts yelling along with all our gay chanting, and they don't even realize
what we're saying.''. The Confederate flag issue was a hot-button topic at the time, and the
band decided to take a swipe at flag supporters by incorporating the object
of debate into its name.
