GAYBC Radio Network's Spring Schedule
Compiled By GayToday

gayradio.gif - 8.73 K The GAYBC Radio Network (www.gaybc.com) announced the programming schedule today for its upcoming Spring season of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender radio shows. The network, operated by GLOradio Corporation, reaches listeners anywhere in the world that has access to the Internet's World Wide Web. GLOradio and a handful of its programs is celebrating it's second anniversary.

"As we begin our third year, GAYBC is pleased to announce that we will launch our largest and most ambitious season of programming on Monday, March 15," said company founder and president John McMullen.

"Our schedule includes several new programs and a new live program channel that will be very similar to over-the-air radio, with a great mix of music, news, and talk-shows broadcast every weekday."

Charlie Dyer, the Network's vice president of programming, says that because of the volume of shows that will be offered this season, GAYBC has broken out five different channels accessible from a single page on their Web site. "The channels are defined as: Live, News & Business, Living, Culture, and Special Events," says Dyer.

Live Channel

Six programs will initially comprise the GAYBC Live Channel. "We wanted to establish a program venue where listeners could be interactive with the talent and the audience," says Dyer. "The Live Channel offers thousands of people the opportunity to voice their opinions on issues important to our Community, or ask questions of guests on our talk-shows.

This service also gives listeners a chance to participate in determining what LGBT songs make it or break it on our play-list during music shows. There will be a variety of news, music and talk, which helps us create a listening environment favorable to a lot of people."

McMullen and Dyer will both have a significant presence on the new Live Channel as GAYBC's flagship talk-show, Hangin'OUT, is moving to a two hour live spot in the evenings, which will continue to be co-hosted by Jessica Stevens from San Francisco.

McMullen will also anchor the GAYBC News Hour and host a one-hour morning program that features music, news and listener contests, called McMullen In The Morning. Dyer will share some of the news reporting duties with McMullen and will have his own music program called TraQz, which will air during mid-day hours and be repeated at night with other programs following the initial nine-hours of original daily content.

Jeremy Hovies brings some youthful spirit to the line-up of shows as he will host part of the mid-day line-up of music programming, including his own Alternative Rock show called Electric Brunch.

News & Business Channel

GAYBC's strategic partnerships with organizations like The Advocate, Gay.Com, OnQ, and the Gay Financial Network will be most recognized in terms of the News & Business Channel.

In addition to the GAYBC News Hour on the Live Channel, GAYBC will continue to offer its Daily Dose newscast which is available on-demand 24 hours per day and updated each weekday with a brief report on several news stories specifically affecting people in the LGBT communities.

GAYBC Radio News will be a new five-minute news report that is updated on the hour from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific. This report will focus on national and international news headlines and will include a brief summary of LGBT news stories that GAYBC is covering that day.

In February, GAYBC announced with the Gay Financial Network the launch of a new daily close-of-market financial news report focusing on the performance of companies that are progressive towards LGBT issues. This program will be hosted by Jeffrey Newman from GFN and will be available each weekday on-demand and during the GAYBC News Hour on the Live Channel.

Culture Channel

GAYBC's popular arts and entertainment review, The Culture Corner with Charlie Dyer, and Don Romesburg's weekly community history feature, Times of Our Lives return for another season.

These programs will be joined by the return of the Network's weekly Web site review, OutSurfin', which will now be hosted by Eric Haeberli, The Advocate magazine's cyber columnist.

New shows joining the schedule this season are: Point of View with commentator Ann Northrop, and My Queer Life with author and columnist Michael Thomas Ford. All of the Culture Channel programs are on-demand and will be accessible 24 hours per day.

Living Channel

The Living Channel will feature a combination of daily and weekly programs that will enrich people's day to day lives. Travel tips, sex and relationship advice, how to live better with HIV and AIDS, managing personal finances, and exploring spiritual paths are just part of the line-up.

Malcolm McKay and Jef St. De Lore are back for another season of answering listeners e-mail, giving advice on happier and healthier relationships and sex lives on the Dr. Ruthless show. Peter Berkery, author of Financial Planning for Gays & Lesbians, returns to GAYBC with weekly financial tips on Fiscally Fit. Travel veteran Jeff Calley returns mid-season as host of Ideas In Travel. John McMullen will temporarily host the show while Jeff completes a trip to Central America.

New programs coming to the Living Channel this Spring include: Love, Danny, a daily advice program that appears monthly in GayToday, hosted by nationally syndicated columnist Danny Gale, who answers mail from listeners and has suggestions for positive living with HIV and AIDS; SpiritWave, a weekly exploration of all things spiritual, hosted by QSpirit founder Christian de la Huerta; GenderTalk, a weekly one-hour talkshow dealing with gender issues and news hosted by Nancy Nangeroni; and, Bear In Mind, a weekly radio get-together for the Bear community hosted by Roger Swayze. dgale.jpg - 5.49 K Columnist Danny Gale

A couple of GAYBC's programs that have been on the Network during the past several months will be on a brief hiatus. Those programs include: Bound To Talk, a weekly talk-show for the Leather community; and The Culinary Closet, a weekly cooking program. Both programs are expected to resume later in the season or June 1. Dyer says that the company is also planning to launch a weekly political roundtable program from Washington, D.C., which will be hosted by online activist John Aravosis.

Special Events

twchorus.jpg - 7.65 K McMullen, who has been behind the microphone for some the the LGBT Community's largest events during the past two years, including the GLAAD Media Awards, President Clinton's address to the HRC, and the Gay Games in Amsterdam, says that GAYBC's first two big events of the new season will be a concert by The Women's Chorus of Dallas on March 28 and the 3rd Annual Gay/Lesbian American Music Awards. The four-hour GLAMA broadcast will be heard live on GAYBC at 6 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Pacific on April 12, from the Manhattan Center in New York City.
