Lambda Literary Awards |
Compiled by GayToday Lambda Literary Foundation
This year's finalists for the Lambda Literary Awards will be announced at the Tribeca Rooftop on May 2, 2002, at a gala banquet event here. Special guest comic Margaret Cho will provide entertainment, and performance poet Emanuel Xavier will preside as emcee. The awards show will be preceded by four literary events. In New York, finalists will first congregate to present their work on March 6th and March 20th at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. San Francisco finalists will read from their books on April 11th at the San Francisco Main Public Library. Washington, D.C. will welcome Lammys finalists to the Jewish Community Center on April 18th. Winners are chosen from various categories or types of gay and lesbian literature, their works selected for excellence in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender literature. Among the five finalists in the category for Small Presses stands a book that has been particularly celebrated in GayToday, namely Scared Straight: Why It's So Hard to Accept Gay People and Why It's So Hard to Be Human by Robert N. Minor, Ph.D., published by Humanity Works! Dr. Minor's essays are published regularly in GayToday.
