"Threats come from time to time," Murray told the Edmonton Sun. "It's a part of public life but I feel well protected by the police."

University of Winnipeg criminologist Michael Weinrath told the paper that Murray may be the first Canadian politician to don protective armor.

Zimbabwe's President
Goes Gay-Bashing Again!

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe denounced gays again March 14.

Addressing 200 traditional chiefs, he said: "Unlike pigs and dogs, which know their females and can naturally become intimate with them, gays and lesbians cannot differentiate between males and females.

"We are against homosexuality and we, as chiefs in Zimbabwe, should fight against such Western practices and respect our culture."

Previously, Mugabe has said: "We cannot have a man marrying a man or a woman marrying a woman here. What an abomination, a rottenness of culture, real decadence of culture. Once you impose a foreign culture on us then you naturally evoke the devil in us. [Homosexuals are] repugnant to my human conscience ... immoral and repulsive. ... Animals in the jungle are better than these people because at least they know that this is a man or a woman. ... I don't believe they have any rights at all. [Gay sex is] an abomination."
Activists Invade London's Daily Mail

Gay activists chained themselves to a pillar in the newsroom of London's Daily Mail March 15, set off fog horns, and chanted, "Daily Mail, Hate Mail."

They were angry over the paper's support of Section 28, a 10- year-old U.K. law that prohibits cities from "intentionally promot[ing] homosexuality" or teaching "the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship" in schools.

Another activist attached herself to a railing overlooking the office building's atrium where additional protesters unfurled a banner reading, "Daily Mail Promotes Anti-Gay Hatred."

Outside, a third group of activists sprayed the building and security guards with pink "silly string" and erected signs declaring the area a "Pink Zone."

"The Daily Mail is Britain's most insidiously homophobic newspaper, organizing periodic anti-gay campaigns amongst its vast readership," said a spokesman.

"Last year, the paper's bigoted rants were instrumental in defeating the British government's attempts to equalize the age of consent for gay men. Most recently, the paper has aligned itself with conservative forces in the House of Lords to ensure the retention of some of the most viciously homophobic legislation in Europe, the infamous Section 28."
