Secret Diaries of The Beatles' Gay Manager Uncovered

Compiled By GayToday

The Glasgow Daily Record & Sunday Mail has reported that the secret diaries of the Beatles gay manager, Brian Epstein have surfaced after 30 years. Describing Epstein as “the ultimate star-maker--the man who transformed the Beatles from leather-clad wannabes to the greatest rock band of all time,” the newspaper says his diaries reveal him as “a manic depressive” who worried too much.

He died aged 32, in August, 1967

When his drug overdoses had become regular episodes, Paul McCartney was concerned, say the diaries, that Epstein was taking life too seriously and had explained to him that worrying itself is “pointless.”

The diaries, which Epstein gave to Bryan Barrett, his chauffeur, to assure safety, are said to contain tortured passages. They expose demons which drove the young man to an early grave.

Life in the closet had been a major cause of his misery. He was tortured by the memory of his arrest for "importuning" in 1957.

Epstein's diaries, including other personal belongings, are scheduled for auction at Christies in London on April 27.
