March on Washington, D.C. |
By Jack Nichols
Down with the King: Protesters rally in Washington, D.C. against the illegitimate president Washington D.C.-Some 2,000 mostly Democratic activists who regard George W. Bush as an illegitimate occupant of the Oval office, marched here Saturday. An Associated Press photo showing protesters and signs at the U.S. Capitol building featured a placard photo of Bush, across whose eyes the word "Illegitimate" clearly appears. A similar march, sponsored by www.VoterMarch.Org, took place in San Francisco. Jeannine Ross, a member of the South-Florida-based Oral Majority related her experience of Washington's events: "A couple of thousand people were there," she writes, "all supporting each other. I saw so many great signs and great people. Everyone was of like mind, how refreshing. Us 'fringe folk' are more numerous than you would believe. "People came from as far away as Alaska to join this event. There was even a large contingent from Texas! Even if the media doesn't let the world know, I can assure you that Bush knows it happened, Cheney knows it happened and Ashcroft knows it happened. We were very loud and very present!" Other major sponsors of the Washington, D.C. March included www.VoterMarch.org and www.Democrats.com Ms. Ross continued:
Kunst told GayToday Sunday that he is considering a run against Jeb Bush in 2002. It would be the third time the maverick activist has run for high office in Florida. In 1986 Kunst managed, running on a Cure Aids Now platform and with only a five thousand dollar budget, to claim 150,000 Florida Democratic primary voters in a run against now-Senator Graham. As Governor, Kunst noted, Graham's record on meeting the enormity of the AIDS crisis had been poor. In 1982 Kunst had run against Graham for the governor's office. Charging the incumbent with genocide for having sprayed marijuana plants with toxic chemicals, he garnered 75,000 Democratic votes on this first try. "Janet Reno?" Kunst laughed when reminded she might run for office this time around, "Well, I supported her with 17 demonstrations during the Elian Gonzalez fiasco, but she let us down, I'm afraid, right after the November 7 theft. Oral Majority wrote to her and asked her to investigate Florida's election fraud. She could have gone after Jeb right then. She didn't. And now look and see-- who is the Attorney General now? Thanks, Janet." The veteran Florida activist said he was concerned about Miami's turmoil should Reno truly decide to run. "The whole place would explode along ethic lines. The Cuban right wing despises her. Janet on the campaign trail would mean total chaos." Kunst, who picketed Anton Scalia in Ft. Lauderdale last week, is, as of this writing, traveling across Delaware and is on his way to demonstrate against George W. Bush for being a fraud when Bush speaks at Yale University. |
