Condoms into Prisons Switzerland Considers Couples' Rights |
By Rex Wockner International News Report British Judge Orders Condoms into Prisons British High Court Justice David Latham July 5 ordered the Home Office to distribute condoms in prisons in cases where gay inmates are having sex without protection. Plaintiff and former prisoner Glen Fielding failed in his attempt to have the court order unrestricted access to rubbers but Latham wrote, "Whenever a prison medical officer is satisfied that a request for condoms is from a genuine homosexual who is intent on indulging in what would otherwise be unsafe sex, he should prescribe condoms." A recent survey found that 68 percent of Swiss support legal recognition of gay partnerships. Any measure passed by lawmakers could be subject to a national referendum if 100,000 Swiss sign a petition demanding a say in the matter. |
