Roman Catholic Bishop
Admits Sex with Priest

Compiled by GayToday

sexandchurch.gif - 9.31 K San Francisco—Seldom, it seems, has rampant hypocrisy at the highest levels of The Roman Catholic hierarchy aired so flamboyantly as has happened this month.

First the Vatican apologized for housing too many pedophile priests but still refused to grant Roman Catholic priests any freedom from celibacy. Once again, the Pope bitterly attacked the concept of same-sex marriage as well.

Next, Gone With the Wind at the Vatican a tell-all book was published, the work of a Vatican insider, a Monsignor, which now threatens to become an all-time best-seller.

Homosexuality, favoritism, and greed Vatican-style all make Hollywood and Wall Street seem tame by comparison, say this book's reviewers. The Vatican, in a vain attempt to censor it, is suing its publisher to have it recalled. The Italian press is presently in a fury.

Finally, during this July, the Vatican has managed to condemn homosexuality as intrinsically evil and has brought to a halt the participation of a U.S. nun and a priest in New Ways Ministry, a 22-year-old spiritual outreach to gay and lesbian Catholics. This occurrence has been receiving wide spread publicity.

Almost immediately, however, Bishop Patrick Ziemann (who presided prior to his resignation over 140,000 Catholics in the Santa Rosa, California Diocese, north of San Francisco) admitted to having had a sexual relationship with his priest-underling, Rev. Jorge Salas, who is—in a suit against the Bishop-- insisting that their sex was forced.

Bishop Ziemann denies having used force, however. He insists that his relationship with Father Salas had been—while intrinsically evil-- entirely consensual.

Sexual encounters between the two took place in a variety of locales, including the Bishop's residence and the diocesan residence.

Rumors have been spread by Church officials that Father Salas has asked as much as $8 million to settle the disagreement out of court.
