Ellen & Anne:
A Relationship Ends Amicably

Compiled By GayToday

New York, New York—In a joint statement delivered over the weekend to the New York Daily News, Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Hecht, Hollywood's most famous same-sex couple, have confirmed that they are ending their relationship after three-and a half-years.

Ms. Hecht has moved out of the couple's Hollywood Hills home where Ms. DeGeneres remains. Friends report that there are no third parties involved and that the break-up was a mutual decision.

Their brief joint statement said:

"Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship. It is an amicable parting, and we greatly value the 3 1/2 years we have spent together. We hope everyone will respect our privacy through this difficult time."

The "two funny blonds" as they were dubbed by the Daily News, are reportedly "very very upset" but close friends also report that their relationship had simply "run its course."

In spite of this, however, both women have enjoyed a particularly creative Year 2000. They took center stage at the Equality Rocks concert at April's Millenium March on Washington and collaborated on a If These Walls Could Talk II, an HBO film which, through three mini-stories, provides a poignant look at lesbian life and love.

On a three-month, cross-country bus trip Ms. Hecht filmed Ms. DeGeneres as she returned to standup comedy. Friends called this effort “an act of love.”

Last month, HBO aired the comedienne's talents on stage at New York's Beacon Theatre. Ms. Hecht's film about Ellen is scheduled for release next year.
