Female-to-Male Transexuals to Hold Conference

kbornstein.jpg - 9.81 K Author Kate Bornstein will speak at Forward Motion: Celebrating Cultures, Advocacy, and FTM Los Angeles—On October 8 to 10, over 500 individuals are expected here to attend Forward Motion: Celebrating Cultures, Advocacy, and FTM Lives, a fall conference for female-to-male transgender people.

This conference will be held at Los Angeles' Hilton Burbank Airport and Convention Center.

The international conference is for people who were assigned female at birth or in childhood and who have masculine self-identification some or all of the time. Significant others, spouses, family members, health care providers, friends and supporters, as well as those questioning their gender identity are welcome to attend.

Forward Motion will offer three days of programs covering a variety of topics including relationships, family issues, spirituality, health and medical matters, sexualities, FTM history, political activism, the arts, FTM / MTF tensions and alliances, legal issues, body-building and fitness, as well as issues of youth, aging, race and ethnicity. This conference will also include an art exhibit, vendors, book signings and social events.

The list of confirmed guests includes the following:

  • Kate Bornstein, performance artist, actress, and author of Gender Outlaw and My Gender Workbook, will host "The Dating Game" at the Friday night party.

  • Jamison Green, FTM International President, will present the award-winning photographs of Loren Cameron, author of Body Alchemy.

  • Susan Stryker, Ph.D. and Percy Wise will present a session on the life of Louis G. Sullivan, founder of FTM International.
