Atlanta., Georgia--NGLTF Creating Change, the nation's largest annual conference
of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) community, will convene
at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta beginning Thursday, November 9.

The conference will feature approximately 2,500 activists, organizers,
elected officials and other community leaders attending some 190 plenary sessions,
workshops, caucuses and special events over a four-day period concluding
Sunday, November 12.
Some conference participants will remain in Atlanta on
Monday, November 13 for a special "Body Politic Workout"" that will concentrate on
intensive electoral training and organizing work.
One highlight of the conference will be a focus on the November 7 elections.
A Thursday opening-night plenary session entitled, "What Comes Next?" will
feature David Bohnett, founder of GeoCities, the largest Internet community;
Joo-Hyun Kang, executive director of the Audre Lorde Project; New York City
Councilmember Margarita Lopez; and Phill Wilson, founder of the African-American
AIDS Policy and Training Institute as well as the National Black Lesbian
& Gay Leadership Forum. The forum will be moderated by Joan Garry,
executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Other highlights of this year's NGLTF Creating Change include:
An appearance by Coretta Scott King. Mrs. King will appear at the opening
plenary at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.
A plenary entitled "Southern Cookin': Stirrin' Up Change in the South and
the Nation." This plenary, scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, will examine
the status of GLBT organizing in the South in the context of the ongoing civil
rights movement.
A plenary entitled "Age Matters: Voices from Two Generations" will examine
ageism within the GLBT movement. Immediately following the plenary, scheduled
for 10:45 a.m. Saturday, NGLTF will host a press conference to announce the
release of a groundbreaking report entitled, "Outing Age: Public Policy Issues
Affecting Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders."

A performance by Kate Clinton, one of the nation's premier comedians,
entitled "With Levity and Justice for All." Clinton's performance will take
a tongue-in-cheek look at the Nov. 7 elections. Joining her on stage will be
Atlanta's own ADODI Muse: A Gay Negro Ensemble, the black gay male performance
poets collective. The show will begin at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 in the
Peachtree Ballroom of the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Tickets are $20 in advance;
$25 at the door and are available at Charis Books & More, Outwrite Books and on
site at the Creating Change Conference.
A Sunday morning plenary focusing on the intersections of racism and
homophobia will feature Dr. Manning Marable, professor of history and political
science and the founding director of the Institute for Research in African-American
Studies at Columbia University. Following the 11 a.m. plenary, Creating Change
participants will march in a Procession of Respect to the Martin Luther King Jr.
Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
NGLTF Creating Change will attract some 2,500 participants from every state
in the United States and as many as a half dozen foreign countries.
