San Francisco, California—Two explicit and threatening messages detailing the daily
routines of gay mayoral candidate Tom Ammiano, currently President of San Francisco
Board of Supervisors, has city police worried about the welfare of the popular
politician. |
The six-paragraph threat, from a self-styled 'Christian', was discovered on two
different sites, and contained anti-gay rhetoric as well as information about
Ammiano's scheduled appearances including the routes he takes to get to one site
or another.
San Francisco Police Chief Fred Lau told reporters: "We've been talking
to the supervisor and his staff we'll make the appropriate decisions.'' A team of
police officers has been assigned to investigate the threat and Ammiano has
been put under 24-hour protection.
Following the 1978 murder of Harvey Milk, who was also a gay member of the
Board of Supervisors, and of then Mayor George Moscone, threats to the safety
of politicians in The City are not taken lightly.
The Internet messages were discovered and quickly removed from message boards
For the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Bay Guardian, an
alternative weekly paper.
