house.jpg - 15.25 K The House Leadership is rushing to impeach President Clinton before the newly elected Congress is sworn in. In spite of the clear message sent by voters only a month ago, the Leadership is determined to move forward with this partisan process. The Vote will be Very Close. The nation could be paralyzed for months if the President is put on trial in the Senate.

You Can Prevent This.

Three simple steps to stopping impeachment:

1. Call your Representative through Wednesday Dec. 16, toll-free!

Call Toll Free at: 1-877-TO-MOVE-ON (1-877-866-6836) to reach the Capitol Hill switchboard. Ask for your Representative, or just give the operator your zip code and you'll be transferred directly to his or her office. It's easy and free. If you get a busy signal, try again. Every phone call makes a difference.

OR, go to www.pfaw.org/moveon/ to look up your Representative using your zip code. You will find these instructions and other actions you can take to stop impeachment.

2. Tell them to stop impeachment.

Here's a sample conversation, in case you're tongue-tied:

Staff: Hello, Rep. Livingston's office.

You: Hi, I'm a constituent opposed to impeachment. I want Congress to immediately MOVE ON to the more urgent issues facing the nation. Please have the Representative let me know what he/she plans to do to accomplish this.

Staff: Will do. Just give me your address and we'll write you.

3. Let us know how it went. Fill out the feedback form at www.pfaw.org/moveon/feedback.shtml to tell us what happened.

What Else Can I Do?

  • You can also call the House Leadership. Even if they aren't your Representatives, they are responsible to you. Call them through the toll free number (877-866-6836) or at the numbers below, and tell them the same thing:

Bob Livingston: (202) 225-3015, House Speaker Elect
Henry Hyde: (202) 225-4561, House Judiciary Committee Chairman
Tom DeLay: (202) 225-5951, Majority Whip

  • Send an email to your friends to remind them to call too! Forward this message, or go to www.pfaw.org/moveon/ to send an instant e-mail alert.

  • Distribute 'Let's Move On' fliers anywhere you can: your neighborhood, church, campus, book club, door to door, parking lots, and any organizations you are a part of. You can download a copy at www.pfaw.org/moveon/stop.pdf

  • Write letters to the editors of your local newspapers. Tell them you think Congress needs to move on. Voice your own concerns about the direction our nation is headed. A sample letter is available at www.pfaw.org/moveon/editor.shtml

  • Call in to local talk shows and let fellow listeners know what Congress is up to and that America needs to speak out. Make sure to mention 1-877-TO-MOVE-ON and www.pfaw.org/moveon/

  • Talk to everyone you know about this, and urge them to call. Many of your friends, relatives and neighbors may not even know that this is going on.

    What's This All About?

On November 3 voters sent a message to Congress:
" It's time to move on."

But Congress is ignoring the message!

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee voted articles of impeachment against the President. The full House will vote THIS WEEK, and if even one article of impeachment passes, a trial will be launched in the Senate that could last for MONTHS.

Congress should be doing the work of the people. Focusing on issues like Education. Health Care. Civil Rights. Making America a better place to live.

So it's time to send another message.

Through Wednesday December 16, we have arranged for FREE long distance calls directly to Capitol Hill. We need to make sure Congress understands the nation is passionately opposed to this cynical and destructive use of the impeachment process.

    Response Has Been Tremendous!

By 5:00 pm EST on Friday December 11, PFAW logged over 86,000 phone calls through its 1-877-TO-MOVE-ON number, which does not even count direct calls to Congress.

Here is some feedback from a fellow concerned citizen:

"This is the first time I have ever called my representative ever. You made it easy! Thank you. [My Representative is opposed to impeachment and intends to vote against it!!")

Congress needs to hear MORE from the American people. If you haven't gotten through yet, keep trying.

When you call, please be polite and remember that the staff members are answering thousands of calls.
